Read more about what is happening below: Sunday 01-20-08: It is Sunday night and we have just unloaded our tools and eat dinner. It is very cold. I think we will be sleeping in our cloths tonight. I will upload pictures to the website tonight if my fingers don't fall off first. We have to go outside to connect to the internet.
Monday 01-21-08:
Good Morning, It is 5:30 in the morning and I seem to be the first one up. There are two other groups down here. We don't know much about them yet but one group is from Virgina and the other from PA. The group from PA is made up of a bunch of Christians from different churches. Some are Grace Brethren churches. They will be teaming up with us this week. The group from Virgina is working on a community center. They have been coming back here for some time and have just been working on this one project. Mr Miller's house is not as far along as they had hoped it would be when we got here. Thank God Tom brought his space heater. We will really need it as there is no heat in the house and we have a lot of drywall work to do. Maggie will be leaving this morning to go to Gulfport airport to pickup two more members of our team. She will also be making our first trip to Home Depot. I'll bet she will really know the way there by the end of the week. Although it is not as cold here as it is there, it feels cold as there are not many heaters down here. Last night everyone slept in there cloths to stay warm. I had a quilt inside my sleeping bag, (thank you Maggie) so I stayed warm as long as I stayed under the quilt. The still camera I brought isn't working. The battery died and I forgot the charger. It seems with all I brought, I still forgot a number of things. We have two others with cameras thought so we will still be uploading pictures. Tuesday 01-22-07:
Its Tuesday morning and I again find myself the first one up. It was a good day yesterday. Norm and Jack made it here without a problem. They joined Rich, Dave and myself working on Mr Miller's house. The first thing we needed to do was make a run to Home Depot. We purchased and then donated all the supplies needed to finish the drywall in the house. Rich had us all working hard. He would show us what to do and we all went to work. We were under a time line because recovery center personnel are coming to the house this after noon to spray paint all the walls and ceiling. I did get the chance to meet Mr Miller yesterday. He was unable to get out of the car but his driver came and got me and we had a nice talk. BJ and Tom and an interesting day too.Their morning was spent fixing the electric in a house that didn't pass inspection. Then they were taken to a house they will be working on most of the week. It is a larger house than what the rest of us are working on and they will be doing all the rough electrical work there. If they finish that one, there is another one of the same floor plan that needs done. I think the recovery center really likes Tom's work. They talked him into trouble shooting some electric problem they are having with a hot water heater here at the center. It was a little warmer last night and everyone worked so hard yesterday that no one had trouble sleeping. I say that because the snoring was in full gear all night. I was able to post more pictures last night. They came from Cheryl's camera. When we get back, you'll have to ask her about the modern toilet seats at the airport. http://rshoemobile.winkflash.com Pearlington Mississippi Work team
Wednesday 01-23-08:
Good Morning Its another early day, but not just for me this time. Our construction team is getting to work early this morning. Mr Miller's house is having a texture sprayed on the walls this morning. Before that can be done, we have a little more sanding to do. Seven of us are all going to be working there. Our electrical team, (Tom and BJ) will be finishing up one of their homes today but they have others to do. Tom and BJ have really been used. They have trouble shooted a number of electrical problems here at the recovery center and will be going to one of the local residents trailers today to fix some of their problems. We do know for sure that we will not be able to finish Mr Millers home before we have to leave, but we are sticking to what we originally decided the first day. We will do as much as we can, the best that we can. Oh by the way, team whole team has really been bonding. It is so nice to see everyone growing together and feeling the need down hear together. Pictures will be uploaded soon. Pearlington Mississippi Work team
Thursday 01-24-08:
Today we started work early. The construction team went to Mr. Miller's to finish sanding before the painters came to spray the walls. All seven of us worked hard and fast to get the drywall in the best shape we could. It was very hard work and it took a lot out of all of us, especially me, but we were done by 9:00. Then we waited and waited, but the painters never came. Now they are scheduled for tomorrow morning. So this afternoon we did some sight seeing. Some of the construction team helped Tom and BJ at their house, which is almost ready for inspection. We are now wondering if we will ever get back to Mr. Miller's house. Leaving it only half done is sad but we will need to be given another house to work on since it will be Friday at the earliest before we could work there again. There are a few new pictures. Mostly silly ones but they show that we are having fun as we work too. http://rshoemobile.winkflash.com Pearlington Mississippi Work team
This is the last evening for our team in Pearlington. We finished roughing
one house and went as far as we could with Mr. Miller's house. We were not able
to finish his house and that was somewhat disheartening to some of us, but the
Lord had His hand in what we did here this week. We were able to spend some time
with the family from the house Tom and BJ roughed in. We had a lot of fun with
them. We were also able to present to the recovery center, gift cards donated by
some of you. A donation was also made to the church that fed us lunch everyday.
They have been fixing hot lunches at their church since the storm and continue
to do so at the expense of the church.
Tomorrow we will be leaving for home. It is a day early but we accomplished
all they had for us to do. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot more to be done,
but we are ready to come home and use what we have learned. That the only sure thing,
is the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When everything else is washed
away, hope is that His grace will remain.
